Time person of the year… Limelight on few such personalities selected in earlier editions

Every year since 1927, TIME has chosen a Person of the Year that influenced the world, for better or worse. From Charles Lindbergh to Donald Trump but as its look like the origin story of TIME person of the year is totally different. At the end of 1927, the editorial team of TIME fail to put the Charles Lindbergh on its cover. Then, latter they decided to get away with putting him on the cover months later by calling him “Man of the Year.”

So here are few such personalities selected in earlier editions:

  • Harles Lindbergh, in 1927, Lindbergh became the first person to fly a plane solo non-stop across the Atlantic, from New York to Paris.
  • Mahatma Gandhi, Gandhi ‘the father of Nation, India’ was the leader of the India’s independence movement. In 1930, he led the Salt Satyagraha, a 240-mile march to protest the imposition of taxes on salt by the British Raj.
  • George W. Bush, in 2000, Bush was elected President of the United States following an allegation of miscount in the Florida recount. In 2004, Bush was re-elected President of the United States, overseeing U.S. involvement in the Iraq War.
  • Barack Obama, in 2008, Obama was elected President of the United States, becoming the first African-American U.S. President in January 2009. Even here’s a twist like George W. Bush in 2012, Obama was also re-elected President of the United States.
  • Mark Zuckerberg, the formal founder of social networking site Facebook, was also become the person of the year in 2010.
